The Heart of Ardent: Election Night Cocktail Recipes

Election Night Cocktail Recipes

It’s not news that it’s U.S. Election time; the real news will be the results of course.
And how many people will be watching the show? Not just the voters, who have cast their ballots from around the world, wherever US citizens are living and working…
There’s going to be a lot of election parties, so I thought I’d post a couple fun original Ardent Pictures Election Night Cocktail Recipes for you.

Break a little tension with a touch of comic relief, perhaps…And if this election is not fun for you, and there is no party, then you may consider these recipes a prescription and hang on for dear life.

Can you guess which cocktail is for which candidate?

The Chillary takes its inspiration from Jon Santer’s Democrat, a bourbon cocktail he named for President Truman.
Our version is a cooler, stiffer drink, perhaps keeping a crisper, more astringent tone, and lacking the sweetness of the bourbon and honey original.

THE CHILLARY
2 ounces gin
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
1 ounce peach liqueur
soda or sparkling mineral water to taste

Stir all ingredients in a tall Collins glass with ice. Garnish with a lemon wheel. After all, the upright lady needs a hat…

Now we come to a cocktail that is a variation on a basic or fancy bourbon sour; it lacks the simple syrup of other sour cocktails because we think bourbon is as old fashioned and as sweet as this one is going to get.

THE SCREAMING TANGERINE
2 ounces bourbon whiskey
1 1/2 ounces tangerine juice*
1/2 ounce Meyer lemon juice *

Splash the ingredients together in a rocks glass on ice and top with a cherry and an orange slice.

If you’d prefer your Screaming Tangerine Isolated in a Gold Tower, add a float of Goldschläger gold-leaf cinnamon schnapps on top, and serve in a tall glass. You’ll probably need the schnapps if you’d miss the sweetness of the simple syrup.

And of course, if you want a Tim Kaine or Mike Pence themed cocktail, I’d suggest old fashioned rum based cocktails, such as variations on the Cuba Libre or the Mojito.

*If tangerine juice or Meyer lemon juice are not available, orange juice and lemon juice are acceptable substitutes.
